Fall 2016

"The Magdala Stone Comes to Texas" a Talk by Father Eamon Kelly.

In 2009, the Israeli Antiquities Authority excavated a unique carved stone that many think rivals the Dead Sea Scrolls in significance. The Magdala Stone was in the center of an ornate first-century synagogue, where Jesus probably taught, and was close to the Sea of Galilee. Magdala was the hometown of Mary Magdalene. The stone relates to the Temple in Jerusalem, the center of ancient Judaism and Jewish culture.
Father Eamon Kelly, Vice Chargé of the Pontifical Institute Notre Dame of Jerusalem Center and Vice Director of the Magdala Center, will present the context and highlight the interfaith significance of this stone. A replica of the Magdala Stone is in Texas for the first time and will be on display at UNT during the lecture.
