A Message from the Jewish Studies Program on the Violence In Israel

The Jewish Studies Program at the University of North Texas expresses its horror and grief in response to Hamas's reprehensible and indefensible violence against civilians in Israel, from the very young to the very old. To all those affected by this terror, including our students' family members and friends, we offer our steadfast support. We pray that the memory of those lost will be a blessing to their loved ones; for the physical and emotional recovery of the thousands of wounded; and for the safe return to their homes of those abducted into Gaza.

It is now crystal clear that supporting Hamas means, as President Biden said on Wednesday (Oct. 11), supporting the "violation of every code of human morality."

After the Holocaust, the world has stated "Never Again" many times. Colleges have also made extensive efforts to teach future generations about the dangers of antisemitism, blind hatred, and political fanaticism. We must reflect on how, in our own day, pre-meditated crimes based on all three have occurred.
