Dr. Richard Joines has published poems in The Southern Poetry Anthology, Quarterly West, Appalachian Heritage, Birmingham Review, Tusculum Review, New South, Dappled Things, and in a chapbook, Parádeisos. His essay "Emerson's Proleptic Eloquence" appeared in Nineteenth-Century Prose and his essay "Contretemps: Derrida's Ante & the Call of Marxist Political Philosophy," in Cultural Logic. His articles on formalist poets Yvor Winters, Turner Cassity, J.V. Cunningham, Thom Gunn, Timothy Steele were published in Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernism, Mississippi Encyclopedia, and A Companion to 20th Century American Poetry. He has reviewed poetry, fiction, literary criticism, philosophy, classical and renaissance studies, and avant-garde free jazz for The Wallace Stevens Journal, Contemporary Poetry Review, The Critical Flame, The Rumpus, American Literary Review, Bryn Mawr Classical Review, Southern Humanities Review, and The Free Jazz Collective. He was an NEH summer fellow at "Ralph Waldo Emerson @ 200: Literature, Philosophy, Democracy," a DAAD fellow at the German Studies Seminar "Nietzsche and Heidegger: The Question of Esoteric Political Philosophy," and a recipient of creative writing residencies at Blue Mountain Center and the Lillian E. Smith Center. He is member of the Wallace Stevens Society.
